Abrasion Platforms

The abrasion platforms are flat rocky reefs situated at the mean seawater level. These platforms are a diverse habitat, inhabited by many unique organisms. The reef-building Vermetid snails that constructed the platforms in the past, have disappeared from the Israeli coast. The reason is still under investigation. The platforms focus lively public, conservationist and scientific attention.

Many of my projects were aimed to gather information concerning the platforms and the efforts to preserve this habitat.

טבלאות גידוד קטנות ומנותקות מול "מפרץ בנימין" בחדרה. (הצילום נעשה במסגרת ניתוח תאי שטח "תל עפר" (בחזית) ו"בית חנקין" (ברקע).

לפעמים הטבלאות חשופות במשך ימים. רוב האצות מתות, אבל בעלי-החיים הייחודיים המאכלסים את השוניות, 
עמידים במידה רבה להתייבשות ולתנודות קיצוניות במליחות המים ובטמפרטורה. (צולם בחוף העליה, ת"א)

טבלאות הגידוד שלאורך החופים הולכות ונהרסות בקצב מדאיג. נראה כי הבלייה של הטבלאות מתרחשת במידה רבה בצנירים שבחלקן התחתון. לעתים קרובות, במבט מהצד, הטבלאות יוצרות צורת פטריה או גגון. בסופו של התהליך, הן מתמוטטות בשלמותן. (צולם בחוף חדרה (שמאל) ובחוף בת-ים (ימין )
