Monitoring of the Hamifratz Port (Haifa) expansion works
The dredging Works at Haifa bay inevitably cause resuspension of sediments and considerable affect the marine ecosystem. An extensive monitoring project is carried out to observe the ecological consequences and mitigate the ecological effects to the lowest possible level. The monitoring started before the beginning of the works and continues after their conclusion.
The submerged kurkar ridges are presumably the most important and vulnerable habitat at the local marine ecosystem. Monitoring of the rocky bottom of the Haifa Bay is intensively carried out by Marine Ventures International Inc. I am the Principal Investigator of the hard bottom monitoring project. Since 2016 I also edit the integrated reports of the Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) of the expansion works.
