Ramat Beit-Shemesh

The vegetative landscape in the Judean mountain is not a “natural” wilderness. This region shaped by millenia of human activities. The local landscape represents the historic legacy – Jewish and other. To me, this gives the area its visual and cultural significance. The prevalent scrub-lands and Maquis were surely typical also to the Biblical and Talmudic periods.

I have conducted a survey at the proposed “Ramat Beit-Shemesh” and a few other surveys in the region. These projects were carried out for “Top Consulting and Engineering LTD.

עץ סיסם הודי Dalbergia sissoo (מין מהגר) גדל בתוך בור מים עתיק.

עץ חרוב Ceratonia siliqua ענק שמשמש למרבץ עדרים (ומקום מנוחה לרועים). חלק מהעץ שרוף שתוצאה ממדורה. סביבת העץ מלאה בעשבי באשה המדושנים בגללי הצאן.

עץ זית "גזום" ע"י רעיית- יתר של הצאן.

מרבדי כלניות (וגיאופיטים אחרים) מתפתחים בדר"כ בשטחים החשופים לרעייה אינטנסיבית. "שמירת טבע" ע"י הפסקת הרעייה, גורמת במקרים רבים להכחדת הפריחה.

זית המתחדש לאחר כריתה ומצמיח עשרות גזעים. רוב הזיתים באזור נכרתו בעבר.
